Our art show and Friends and Family Sunday were both a huge success. Thank you to Mr. Lamarca and Mrs. Fetty for your help in coordinating this show. It was a wonderful way to end our school year and to display the many talents of our students.
We would also like to thank Mrs. Gant for her work in teaching our students to play the Cannon in D in such a short amount of time!
Lewis Center Art Show
Light the Community
Lewis Center is excited to announce our seventh-grade students receive one of five $20,000 grants awarded by Youngstown State University through the Inplace program which is an innovative Plan for Leveraging Arts through Community Engagement.
The students developed all aspects of the plan and presented it to the committee. Their project includes installing a piece along Emily Street that will project shadow art onto the City Hall Annex. The piece will be called “Light the Community.”
This is an effort funded by The National Endowment for the Arts to beautify downtown Youngstown. The shadow art will project announcements and art which will be visible from the Market Street bridge. Members of the team are advisor Mr. Angelo LaMarca, Rick Blair, Kaydin Brown, Vito Colella, Grace Cummings, Pendleton Evans, Gabby Johnson, Pat Kelly, A.J. Morris, Katie Murray, Elion Oliver, and Ian Scheetz.
Women in STEM Panel
The Lewis Center for Gifted Learning hosted a Women in STEM Panel comprised of three amazing women from the community. Our panel consisted of Dr. Jean Blair, Julie Smith and Jessie Abeid. Young women from both VCS and The Lewis Center for Gifted Learning were in attendence.
The Lewis Center for Gifted Learning student Gracie performs alongside our own Mrs. Gant in a performance honoring our grandparents! We were delighted and honored to host the families of our students for this special occasion.
